My blogging personality, if you haven't seen it already...

Honest, experienced and real are the three words I’d use to describe the way this blog is written. While writing these posts I think of my experiences while shopping online and how I’d tell my friend or family member what to look out for. I reflect on things I’ve seen and experienced, as well as heard of from other people. I think writing in first person is more interesting than third person, and provides more of a personal connection that you may not get otherwise. I write the way I think, and although my humour is often only funny to me I include it anyways. I will often write about what is, and my smart remarks throughout the post will spice up the content.

A blogger that I particularly like is Miss 604 http://www.miss604.com/. She has loads of local information on her blog but also mixes in her personality. When reading her posts you feel like she’s telling you what’s happening in the community and some of her other posts are quite personal. I’d like to think that the way I write about online shopping sites, is comparable to her writing style while still keeping in first person for a touch of personality. Maybe I should keep dreaming (LOL), but I’d like to share her writing qualities one day.

  1. I'd love to hear your insight into shopping online with websites that are US based. Every time I do I get dinged with big tax/excise bills from the border that often takes away anything I've saved by shopping online. Any way around this that you know of?

  2. Hi Jamie,

Yes, this is a pressing issue for online shoppers so I have a few suggestions :). I recommend you check out affiliate websites like Red Flag Deals and Smart Canucks (these are just a couple of the big ones) to see what's out there for the best price and legitimacy - these sites have consumers talking about the best deals and the biggest frauds so I suggest you look there to find more Canadian based companies with honest reviews for more retail sites (if you're new to a company).

If you find a good price on an American site, I would see who the major company/competitor is in Canada and confirm their price matching policy. Most reputable companies have great price matching policies - you just need to ask ;)

Lastly, and truly my last resort is shipping the order to an address on the other side of the border. There are a few companies that hold packages on the Blaine border for Canadians to pick it up, just google it for their info. It's normally around $5-$10.00 for the hold. I also check what I legally can/can't bring back over the border. Sometimes it makes sense to put a few people's orders together for one grand pick up.

    Hope that helps :)
    JB

  3. I like all three of the traits that you listed but what really resonates is the "real." When it comes to social media personas I find what appeals to me as a consumer is the "real." I love it when bloggers, tweeters etcetera come off in a style that seems like if you met the person (or as the case may be, "persona") in the street that you would be able to sit down and have an excellent conversation.
